Compounding and Sterile Products
Compounding as performed by IVMedco involves the use of pharmaceutical grade chemicals to prepare by trained employees under strict conditions a final product for patient use as prescribed by a physician.
For Non-Sterile Compounding, IVMedco must conform to standards as developed by USP 795. Examples of this type of compounding include: gels, suppositories, oral liquids, and generally medications in various dosage forms that are not otherwise commercially available.
For Sterile Compounding, IVMedco must conform to standards as developed by USP 797. Examples of this type of compounding include medications used in various types of “pain pumps” administered by Intravenous and other routes. Also, IVMedco compounds specialty sterile prescriptions for physicians who need them for patient use, including ophthalmic products, “Myer’s Cocktails”, TPN Solutions, and other prescriptions with multiple ingredients. IVMedco also contracts with hospitals and related facilities to admix Antibiotics for those facilities not having a USP 797 approved Sterile Room.
IVMedco is certified by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) as a Class AS Pharmacy able to perform Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding. IVMedco is also a member of Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA). We perform sterile end-point testing on many compounded products and extended sterility testing as verified by an independent lab on selected compounded products. We have been in operation since 1989.
